Drinking Games on your birthday need to be a bit special, to make the night something to try to remember. My personal favourite birthday drinking game is where you have to spell your name… with the first letter of your drinks. For example, my name is Matthew (Matt is far too short an abbreviation for this game, but including my surname would be a bit long!). So I could drink a Martini, followed by an Appletini, followed by two Theakstons old peculiars and then… well you get the idea. If there isn’t a drink for a letter you can ask the bar tender to make one up. Mixing drinks like this can be dangerous so don’t feel under any pressure to actually finish your name! Remember playing drinking games too often can lead to the development of a drinking problem.

Another fun birthday drinking game is to have the birthday boy or girl make up a really simple quiz. They ask people the questions during the night, if the person they ask gets it right then that person has to drink. Once all the questions are answered correctly the birthday boy/girl is bought a drink as a reward for their good work, and the fact its their birthday of course.

The Jenga drinking game is both simple and fun, the two requirements for any drinking game! In order to play you will need a set of Jenga (or even better, giant jenga), some players and some form of alcohol. Here is a video of some people playing:

You play the game as normal, removing pieces from part way down the tower and putting them on the top. Whenever someone moves a piece successfully they can tell one of the other players to drink, but whoever topples the tower has to chug their entire drink.

You can add some fun variations such as writing on the bottom of the jenga pieces. For example you could write “spank yourself” or “kiss the person next to you” or “put on all the underwear in the house” (im just making these up, you get the idea!). You don’t have to write something on every piece, in fact its probably more fun if you just do it on a few so then people actually do them. Don’t write something that will make people feel uncomfortable (or regret doing it the next day) like “get completely naked”, you never know – the night may end that way anyway!

Have fun and drink safe!

Pub crawls are an ancient tradition, dating back to that time I forgot. A great pub crawl drinking game is a three legged race. You simply pair up, tie your legs together and order 2 pints (one each). You drink your pints and move on to the next pub. Whoever drinks their last pint at the last pub is the winner and can be bought a free round by the other players. Before starting the race it’s a good idea to have the next pubs all planned out, about 5 is a good number. Make sure they aren’t too far away and don’t leave anyone on their own, if your numbers are odd you could always grab a random pub goer and tie them to your leg!

Another fun pub game you might have heard of before is Thumbs. In this game the thumbmaster subtly places his thumb on the table (or bar). As soon as he’s done this everyone else has to do it too, the last person ‘loses’ and has to drink 2 fingers and becomes the new thumbmaster.

EG or (empty glass) is a game that can be played on its own or combined with thumbs. Whenever someone finishes their drink they can’t put it down without touching the glass on someone else. If they forget to do this (and other people notice) everyone shouts EG! The offender then must go and buy another drink that’s the same as the one they just finished it and down it as fast as possible. They have to touch this one on someone else before putting it down too, which often they forget, resulting in them having to buy another drink! You can ‘trick’ people into ‘losing’ (its not really losing, its all fun!) by handing them your empty glass and saying things like ‘can you hold this for a seck while I go to the loo’. Of course that probably won’t work unless they’ve had a few drinks themselves already, so time it carefully!

Don’t play these games too often, drink safely and enjoy!

A fun and very simple wine drinking game is to fill a bowl with wine, drink it then slap it and pass it on! This is one of the earliest drinking games ever recorded and was played by the ancient Greeks!

Another fun wine game is ice cube raft race. In this game each player is given a tray of ice cubes of frozen wine. Players put 1 wine cube in their mouth and suck it, the player who finishes all their wine cubes first wins.

Badass badminton is lots of fun, next time you are playing badminton, bring a couple of bottles of wine along! Each time your opponent hits a shuttle cock into the net kindly pour them a drink. Whenever you score a point, celebrate with a swig of wine. If you win the game (21 points) celebrate with a drink. If the points end up as 20 all or 29 all both teams have a drink! If you win the game or lose the game you drink!

Shot drinking games are fast paced and fun and pretty much guarantee that you’ll be singing like sailors before you even know it yourself. You can combine them with playing board games, such as chess. With chess you can add the rather fun rule that when ever one of your pieces is taken by your opponent, you drink a shot. Of course this can easily result in one person getting completely hammered while the other person remains sober, but that’s half the fun! You can do the same thing with checkers.

With shot tic-tac-toe you drink a shot each time you lose the game, simple but effective!

Where’s the water? is a barely a game, but anyway it’s worth doing. Use a clear spirit like vodka to fill the shot glasses but fill one of the shots with water, the ‘lucky’ person gets the water! You can slow this drinking game down a bit by filling a few more shot glasses with water to stop people getting drunk quite so quickly which is increases alcohol related amnesia (forgetting the night).

Flip, Sip, or Strip is one of my personal favourites. You flip a coin up into the air and guess while its in the air what it will land as. If you are right give it to the next person. If you are wrong you have to drink or take of an item of clothing (a pair of socks/shoes/gloves etc counts as one!).

Enjoy and drink safely!

Drinking Games are obviously much more fun if you play with a group of people who know all the rules, otherwise it ends up as a load of drunken shouting at people who don’ know how to play (actually that is fun too). Anyway, here is how to play the Ring Of Fire drinking game, also known as Kings.

You can play these drinking games with your friends and get absolutely toasted. Having at least some knowledge of this game is required to make our the next friday night drinking film even remotely amusing.

Above is what we call a feature length presentation on how to play ring of fire. You set it up by getting a pint in the middle and with a set of cards spread around it and everyone has a drink. We start off with the Ace, which means you can leave the table if you want. Kings get laid on top of the pint glass, the person who places the last king has to drink the pint glass. Alternativly you have an empty glass in the middle and the person who picks a king pours some of their drink into the glass, then the last person has to chugg the it which by now will be filled with a mixture of whatever everyone is drinking.

10 is the thumbmaster card. Lay it face up so everyone can see (not always required) and put your thumb on the table. The last person to put their thumb on the table has to drink 2 fingers of their drink. 3 is the question card, e.g. I ask you a question, you have to answer me with a question. If you dont answer with a question you drink, if you do it right they have to drink.

A red 5 means you have to drink 5 fingers of your own drink, if it is a black 5 you nominate someone else to drink 5 fingers. 4 you nominate someone to drink 4 fingers. Jack is the I am Sparticus. You all stand up and shout “I am Spartacus”, the last person to do it drinks. 7, it goes round the table saying numbers. You cant say any multiples of 7 or something with a 7 in it.

Have fun with these drinking games!
