Drinking Games on your birthday need to be a bit special, to make the night something to try to remember. My personal favourite birthday drinking game is where you have to spell your name… with the first letter of your drinks. For example, my name is Matthew (Matt is far too short an abbreviation for this game, but including my surname would be a bit long!). So I could drink a Martini, followed by an Appletini, followed by two Theakstons old peculiars and then… well you get the idea. If there isn’t a drink for a letter you can ask the bar tender to make one up. Mixing drinks like this can be dangerous so don’t feel under any pressure to actually finish your name! Remember playing drinking games too often can lead to the development of a drinking problem.

Another fun birthday drinking game is to have the birthday boy or girl make up a really simple quiz. They ask people the questions during the night, if the person they ask gets it right then that person has to drink. Once all the questions are answered correctly the birthday boy/girl is bought a drink as a reward for their good work, and the fact its their birthday of course.

The Jenga drinking game is both simple and fun, the two requirements for any drinking game! In order to play you will need a set of Jenga (or even better, giant jenga), some players and some form of alcohol. Here is a video of some people playing:

You play the game as normal, removing pieces from part way down the tower and putting them on the top. Whenever someone moves a piece successfully they can tell one of the other players to drink, but whoever topples the tower has to chug their entire drink.

You can add some fun variations such as writing on the bottom of the jenga pieces. For example you could write “spank yourself” or “kiss the person next to you” or “put on all the underwear in the house” (im just making these up, you get the idea!). You don’t have to write something on every piece, in fact its probably more fun if you just do it on a few so then people actually do them. Don’t write something that will make people feel uncomfortable (or regret doing it the next day) like “get completely naked”, you never know – the night may end that way anyway!

Have fun and drink safe!

Pub crawls are an ancient tradition, dating back to that time I forgot. A great pub crawl drinking game is a three legged race. You simply pair up, tie your legs together and order 2 pints (one each). You drink your pints and move on to the next pub. Whoever drinks their last pint at the last pub is the winner and can be bought a free round by the other players. Before starting the race it’s a good idea to have the next pubs all planned out, about 5 is a good number. Make sure they aren’t too far away and don’t leave anyone on their own, if your numbers are odd you could always grab a random pub goer and tie them to your leg!

Another fun pub game you might have heard of before is Thumbs. In this game the thumbmaster subtly places his thumb on the table (or bar). As soon as he’s done this everyone else has to do it too, the last person ‘loses’ and has to drink 2 fingers and becomes the new thumbmaster.

EG or (empty glass) is a game that can be played on its own or combined with thumbs. Whenever someone finishes their drink they can’t put it down without touching the glass on someone else. If they forget to do this (and other people notice) everyone shouts EG! The offender then must go and buy another drink that’s the same as the one they just finished it and down it as fast as possible. They have to touch this one on someone else before putting it down too, which often they forget, resulting in them having to buy another drink! You can ‘trick’ people into ‘losing’ (its not really losing, its all fun!) by handing them your empty glass and saying things like ‘can you hold this for a seck while I go to the loo’. Of course that probably won’t work unless they’ve had a few drinks themselves already, so time it carefully!

Don’t play these games too often, drink safely and enjoy!
